My Go To Makeup Looks!

By Aishwarya Kaushal, Tuesday, 7th October 2014

Hello everyone!

I suddenly realized that I’ve never done a post on my everyday makeup!

I want to show you my basic everyday makeup and the look that I gravitate towards the most. This is the makeup that will look great on almost everyone and it is easy to achieve. It makes me look polished and put together and I can finish my makeup in just 20 minutes when I know this is what I’m going to be doing! I have been sticking to this look since about a year now and I haven’t felt the need to change it because it looks amazing and so many people have complimented me on it 🙂

This is also the look that you’ll find me wearing in most of my outfit posts because it looks great with everything. I do change my lipstick and blushes every so often when I want a different shade. Sometimes, I’ll use a colored eyeliner as well but for the most part, this is how I prefer my makeup to look like on an everyday basis :

Winged eyeliner and nude lips is such a great look for everyone. Winging your eyeliner perfectly will take some practice but don’t worry it will come!

Here are all the steps involved to achieve this look and some of my favorite products that I use every time I put makeup on :

1. I like to start by priming my face with either The Body Shop Tea Tree Pore Minimizer or The Body Shop Skin Primer Matte It. Sometimes I use both of them together, I don’t necessarily have large pores but I have oily skin and I like to prolong the wear of my makeup as much as I can! During the winter time when my skin is not as oily, I like to apply MAC Strobe Cream on my cheeks for added glow. I usually like to wait a minute before I put foundation on to let the primer set.

2. After priming, I buff a thin layer of foundation all over my face with a buffing brush or fingers. I always make sure to apply a really thin layer because I don’t like to look cakey! Some of my favorites are the Lakme Absolute Skin Natural Mousse for really oily days, Benefit Hello Flawless Brightening Makeup, Loreal Infallible 16Hr Foundation, Lakme CC Cream! I like foundations that are meant for normal skin and don’t have a very matte finish because I like to look glowy and healthy.

3. Most of the foundations that I like have sheer to medium coverage and I prefer that because I don’t want heavy coverage all over my face. I use the Clinique Even Better Concealer in the shade Orange Brightener under my eyes. It is an orange concealer that helps to cancel out any purple/blue undertones under the eyes. Over that I’ll use the Benefit Boi-ing Concealer which I also use to spot conceal if I have a breakout. To highlight my cheek bones, upper lip area, under the eyebrows and forehead I apply a thin layer of Maybelline Dream Lumi Touch Highlighting Concealer.

4. If I want my blush to last extra long, I’ll apply a cream blush on my cheeks but on most days I just go ahead and set the whole face with my all time favorite powder, Chambor Silver Shadow Compact or Benefit Hello Flawless Powder. If I want a sheer-er compact I’ll use Rimmel Stay Matte Powder or Maybelline Clear Glow Compact.

5. Then, I fill in my eyebrows with Inglot Matte Shadow in the shade 329 and set them with The Body Shop Eyebrow Gel or clear mascara. If I need to get my eyebrows done and they’re very unruly then I’ll use an eyebrow wax from Inglot before filling with powder.

6. Moving onto eyes, I draw a fine line on my top lashline with a black kohl liner, mainly Maybelline Colossal Kajal or Lakme Eyeconic Kajal. Sometimes I’ll use a brown like Colorbar I-Glide Pencil in the shade Cocoa Bar or Faces Long Wear Eye Pencil in Metal Brown. (Other times I may use a green, purple, grey or blue depending on my mood but on most days its either black or brown.) I like to smudge the line with a pencil brush. Then, I line both my top and bottom waterline with the same shade and smudge it a little on the lower lash line with a pencil brush. Then I start with a liquid/gel eyeliner like Maybelline Eye Liner Pen or the Maybelline Gel Eyeliner in Black and trace along the top lash line creating a wing at the end. I then curl my lashes with the Colorbar Eyelash Curler and use my Holy Grail mascara, Maybelline the Falsies on both my top and bottom lashes. I like to apply a second coat of mascara with Maybelline The Colossal Volume Express and this combination gives me long voluminous lashes every time!

7. I like to define my cheekbones for which I contour my face slightly with Sephora Powder Foundation in the shade Deep and lightly dust some on the sides of my forehead and under my jawline as well. I use a different shade of blush almost everyday but my favorite is Sleek Lace Palette. After blush, I’ll use a highlight from the Sleek Face Form Kit on my cheekbones, under the eyebrows, on my cupid’s bow and in the center on my forehead.

8. Like blush, my lip color changes everyday. But, one combination I keep coming back to is Nyx Lip Liner in Natural and Lakme 9 to 5 Lipstick in the shade Red Chaos on top! This is the most beautiful peachy nude combination for my complexion and I prefer matte lips over glossy lips!

P.S. I like to use a makeup setting spray just before I head out to help my makeup last extra long!

I don’t use eye shadows on an everyday basis but on some days I like to get fancy! 😛

And sometimes I’ll wear a matte red lip which to me, is the most beautiful look in the world! But who wears red lips everyday?

When I feel like going all out, I’ll combine smokey eyes with red lips!

Sometimes I’ll play with eyeliner and do something like this :

I had a lot of fun compiling this and sharing my favorite looks with you all! I know this can be a lot of makeup for those of you who only wear Kajal on a day to day basis but I absolutely love makeup! Also, this may seem like a lot of steps but it only takes me around 20 minutes to complete my whole face. I hope you found this post helpful and learnt something new!

How To Make Your Makeup Last All Day!

By Aishwarya Kaushal, Sunday, 17th August 2014

Hello everyone!

India is hot as ever and it has been raining on and off. In this heat and muggy weather, our makeup just doesn’t wanna stay on our face. So, here are a few of my tips and tricks to extend the longevity of your hard working paint and to look fresh through out the day!

The hoopla around priming is real. It gives your foundation something to stick to and as a result, your makeup stays on longer. It also fills in your pores and helps make your skin appear smoother. It is advisable to apply your primer and wait for a few minutes for it to settle, then continue with your foundation-concealer-compact.

If you have oily skin, you will benefit from using a powder foundation. If you have any other skin type and/or prefer liquids and creams, make sure they dry slightly more matte than others and claim to be long lasting. Stay away from words like “dewy”, “glowy”, “hydrating”, “moisturising” etc as foundations which have these qualities usually aren’t very long lasting. ( unless you have extremely dry skin and don’t sweat too much )

I cannot stress the importance of powder, especially so during this time of the year. Powder helps set your cream products into place like foundation, concealer, cream blush, cream highlight, cream contour etc. It helps you stay matte for longer and is great for touch ups!

If you’re like me and you like defining your brows then you may need a little extra help to keep them looking nice and bold throughout the day. Use an eyebrow wax before you fill them in with powder. For added longevity, you can use an eyebrow gel to hold them in place for the rest of the day ( or spray some strong hold hairspray onto a spooley/eye brow brush and comb it through your brows )

An eye shadow base will go a long way in keep your eye shadows looking vibrant and in place throughout the day. You can use a proper eye shadow base or even cream shadows and set them with powders for extra bang. Eye shadow bases also give something to your powder shadows to stick to and help them appear more pigmented.

This is kind of an obvious one because nobody wants to end up with Panda eyes if they sweat or if it rains! I use waterproof mascaras throughout the year because they hold a curl longer. You also want to make sure that your eye liner is waterproof.

Believe it or not, cream blushes stay on for a much longer amount of time than powders. Use them over foundation and before compact. If you want your blush to last longer, apply some powder blush on top and you’ll be rosy till the end of the night.

I happen to be biased towards matte lips the whole year round so especially during this time, gloss goes out of the window for me. I also like using lip stains as they stay on the lips and don’t feather out like glosses may ( even if it rains ).

A makeup setting spray will instantly add hours to your makeup. Many companies make such sprays and they’re well worth the mention. This is usually the last step to my makeup before leaving the house.

I hope this was helpful!

Wedding Makeup Look – Copper Eyes and Red Lips!

By Aishwarya Kaushal, Friday, 28th February 2014

Hello everyone!

Recently, we were a midst the wedding season and I happened to attend a lot of weddings. I wore this beautiful saree to my friend’s brother’s wedding and then to my own cousin brother’s wedding. Both the times, I did the same makeup look but with different hairstyles.

The saree has a lot of silver running through it but there is a tinge of copper on the neck area of the blouse. Silver makeup on my eyes tends to make me look dull and lifeless so I knew I had to go with copper.

Here is what the makeup looks like up close :

How I did it and the products used :

I started by using The Body Shop Seaweed Mattifying Moisture Lotion as my moisturizer. Then, I used the Naked By Lisa Haydon Potion Lotion as an eye cream. I went onto priming my face using the The Body Shop Tea Tree Pore Minimiser followed by The Body Shop Skin Primer Matte It since I have oily skin.

I applied a tiny bit of The Body Shop All In One Concealer in the shade “00” under my eyes. Then I spread a little bit of Revlon Colorstay Whipped Cream Makeup in the shade “180 Soft Ochre” all over my face and blended it with a wet sponge. I now used the Maybelline Dream Lumi Touch Highlighting Concealer in the shade “Ivory” to highlight areas of my face like under eyes, forehead, nose, chin and under the eyebrows. To conceal two spots, I used the Colorbar Full Cover Concealer in the shade “Soft Ivory 001”. Then, I set the entire base makeup with Chambor Silver Shadow Compact in the shade “RR2 Rose Pale”

I filled in my eyebrows using the Inglot Freedom System Eye Shadow Matte Refill in the shade “329”. Moving onto the eyes, since I don’t have oily eyelids, I do not require an eye shadow primer so I just use my foundation to even out any discoloration and hide the look of veins. I spread the Blue Heaven Shimmer And Shiny Eye Shadow Stick in the shade “SS122” as a base. This is a cream product so it helps powder eye shadows stick to something. I then applied the third shade from the Maybelline Diamond Glow Eye Shadow Quad in the shade “Copper Brown” all over my eyelids and used the Loreal Infallible Eye Shadow in the shade “Endless Chocolate” in the crease for some depth. To blend everything out, I took the second shade from the Maybelline quad and ran it though the socket line. Then, to highlight the browbone and inner corners of the eyes, I used the first shade from the same quad. I lined my top lashline using the Colorbar I Glide Eye Pencil in the shade “Cocobar 02” followed by Maybelline Hyper Sharp Liner. I smudged the same pencil on the lower waterline and topped it with a black matte eye shadow from a Sleek palette that I forgot to show here!

I curled my eyelashes using the very cute Colorbar Eyelash Curlers and then applied two coats each of Maybelline The Falsies Mascara and Maybelline The Colossal Mascara respectively.

I didn’t want to contour a lot but wanted some definition so I used the contouring powder from the Sleek Face Form in the shade “Light” along my jawline and a little bit through the hairline. I wanted my blush to stay on for a long time so I used The Body Shop Lip And Cheek Stain in the Shade “01” first and blended it out. I also used the coral shade from the Sleek Blush by 3 Palette in “Lace” on top of that to make it last. I highlighted using the highlighting powder from the Sleek Face Form Palette.

For the lips, I lined my entire lip area with Chambor Velvette Touch Lip Liner Pencil in the shade “RD-21” and filled the lips in with that too. I topped it off using the Lakme 9 to 5 Lipstick in the shade “Red Coat”

Here is how it looks with a bun :

Haul Series Part 1 – Dirt Cheap Makeup Haul

By Aishwarya Kaushal, Wednesday, 6th November 2013

Hello everyone,

I am starting a new series on my blog called “Haul Series”. During the festival season, all of us end up shopping a lot so I thought I’d share with you all what I have bought over this month and considering the shopaholic I am, what I will buy in future!

I wanted to start this series with something exciting. All of us know that makeup is expensive! But, when we find drool worthy products at dirt cheap prices, it is a bundle of joy!

I had never considered Blue Heaven and Coloressense as a brand that I’d like to be using on a day to day basis. I went to my nearest Big Bazaar to pick up groceries ( a haul of which will be coming soon ) and saw the counters for both these brands. I am a makeup addict and anywhere I see flashy makeup, I want to gravitate towards that place, look at everything and admire the products! So naturally, I found myself walking towards the counters.

I began swatching and oh boy was I pleasantly surprised!

Here is what I bought :

They had a wonderful and friendly SA that added to my great shopping experience! Everything was so dirt cheap that I was like a happy jappy kid in a candy store.

1. Blue Heaven Shimmery and Shiny ( Shadow Sticks ) – Rs. 55/-

They are very pigmented and creamy! But keep in mind that you will need a primer underneath otherwise they will crease. They’re a great dupe for the Maybelline Color Tattoos if you want something in the same shade range but do not want to shell out Rs. 350/- for one! However, they’re not as long wearing. They are a great option for people on a budget and you get a lot of product.

Shade 105 is a bronze shade that resembles the Maybelline Color Tattoo in “Bad To The Bronze”

Shade 122 is a dull gold shade that resembles the Maybelline Color Tattoo in “Bold Gold”

2. Coloressense Lip Liner ( Shade-Mauve ) – Rs. 145

It is a beautiful pinky red shade. The liner is in a twist up form, smooth to apply and stays on for 5-6 hours.

3. Blue Heaven Pan Cake ( Shade-Copper Glow ) – Rs. 85/-

When I came home and opened it, the cake was cracked! 😦

But that is not a big problem. The shade is a little off for my face but this type of product is great for the body. It is completely waterproof and transfer resistant. You will need to apply it with a wet sponge and it dries to a matte finish that is very long lasting. If you can find a shade match for your face then do give this is a try!

4. Blue Heaven Shimmer ( Glitters ) – Rs. 35/-

I am highly impressed with these. These can be a great dupe for the Mac Reflex glitters. I only bought 4 shades but I plan to get all the colors! I was ecstatic when I discovered these because glitters are not something you wear everyday so its great to find them at such a reasonable cost!

Shade 204

This is a mauvy – purple shade with silver glitter.

Shade 207

This is dark brown shade with rose gold glitter

Shade 202

This is a bright yellow gold with gold glitter

Shade 201

This is a pure rose gold with gold and rose gold glitter.

5. Blue Heaven Cream Powder ( Shade Skin ) – Rs. 75/-

It is a very smooth powder that gives sheer coverage. If you’re on a budget and you’re looking for something to set your makeup with then this will be a good option! It is also great for touch-ups during the day. The powder itself is smooth and easy to apply.

6. Maybelline Baby Lips

Because I wanted another lip balm! 😛

I have tried 2 other shades and none of them were pigmented enough. The Nivea lip balms are better in color pay off. However, these are very moisturizing which is why I keep purchasing new ones!

The Baby Lips in India are such a disappointment though. the ones available in the US look different and are much more pigmented! Why? Why do they do this? Why can’t they release the same product worldwide?

I guess we will never know!

Anyway, I hope you enjoyed reading about my little inexpensive haul

Maybelline Diamond Glow Eye Shadow Quad in “Copper Brown” Review!

By Aishwarya Kaushal, Sunday, 11th August 2013

What Maybelline claims :

The most glowing diamond effect in 4 simple steps

  • Glow your eyes with diamonds

Maybelline Diamond Glow Eye Shadow “Copper Brown”

Why You’ll Love It

•Glow you eyes with diamonds with the creamiest powder shadow ever launched by Maybelline NY!
•The most glowing diamond effect in 4 simple steps
•Exclusive technology with gem-like sparkles that do not crush

Expert Tip

Apply A on your entire eye lid and inner corner with the bigger sponge.
Blend B on your medium lid with the opposite side of the bigger sponge.
Blend C on lower medium lid with the smaller sponge.
Use D with the opposite side of the smaller sponge to line the lash line.

Maybelline Diamond Glow Eye Shadow “Copper Brown”

My Thoughts :

If you are looking for an easy neutral palette, then this could be your pick. It consists of 4 shades ranging from a creamy shimmery beige to a dark brown.

All the shadows have a pearl/metallic finish. None of them are matte.

This could be a go to eye shadow quad for college girls and for working women as it has shades that complement each other well and hence this helps to get ready quicker.

It has 4 shades of copper/brown.

The packaging is sturdy and shuts with a click.

Maybelline Diamond Glow Eye shadow “Copper Brown”

The first shade ( A ) is very shimmery. I like to use it for highlighting the inner corner and under the brow bone. Sometimes I will just wear mascara and highlight using this shade and manage to look fully awake and beautified.

The second shade ( B ) has a pearl finish. Slightly darker skin tones can also use this as a highlight color. It has very fine golden shimmer and looks beautiful under the brow bone and all over the lid.

The third shade ( C ) is my favorite shade in the palette. It is a beautifully pigmented shade of rose gold. I use this all over the lid.

The fourth shade ( D ) is a dark brown with fine golden shimmer. It is not as pigmented but I like that because it gives a very soft look. I like to use in the outer ‘V’ of my eyes and under the lower lash line to create some depth.

Maybelline Diamond Glow Eye Shadow “Copper Brown”

Since they are so soft and easy to blend, there is no fallout. However, if you want them to last long, I’d advise using an eye shadow primer underneath.

I like that there is not too much shadow in this quad and I can actually see myself finishing it. ( which is rare with shadows )

Here is how it looks WITHOUT FLASH :

Maybelline Diamond Glow Eye Shadow “Copper Brown”

Here is how it looks with FLASH :

Maybelline Diamond Glow Eye Shadow “Copper Brown”

The GOOD :

1. Great neutral palette.

2. Easy to wear to college/work.

3. Travel friendly.

4. Soft and easy to blend.

5. Decently Pigmented.

1. A tad too expensive.

2. Dark brown shade is not as pigmented as the others. ( I like that but not everyone may like it )

Will I recommend and repurchase?

I don’t think I will have to repurchase this too soon but if I finish this up then I will. I recommend this to anyone who wants a quick look with shiny neutrals and easy touch ups throughout the day! I absolutely LOVE the shade ( A ) for highlighting! ❤
