My Experience With Acrylic/Fake Nails And Gel Manicure!

By Aishwarya Kaushal, Monday, 23rd September 2013

Hello everyone! 🙂

So recently I went to a nail salon to get my nails done. I was unsure if I wanted to get acrylics. I had thought about getting a gel manicure only but my nails are very brittle and the thought of getting long nails in a matter of minutes was very alluring! 😛

I decided on a French Manicure, a true classic.

The place is called “CLAWS” and it is located in the GK 2 Market, New Delhi.

We started by pushing my cuticles back and filing my nails. Then we moved onto acrylic french manicure nails. They are white in color to get that beautiful french tip.

The acrylic nails were glued on mine just a few millimeters before where my real nails start growing out.

I know it looks really scary now but it gets better! 😛

My nails were now trimmed to a more appropriate length.

I still felt they needed to be a bit shorter so they were trimmed again, just a few millimeters. Then they were filed properly to avoid any sharp edges.

Image

They were then filled with a mixture of some liquid and powder. I forgot to ask what it was! But, that is what makes the fake nails look like your real nails and binds them together.

They were filed again and buffed to perfection from top to bottom.

Then we moved onto a gel top coat that gives a beautiful shine that stays for a long time.

I wanted to get some nail art done but I didn’t want to spoil the sophisticated look of the french manicure so we decided to do an accent nail.

Image

I was told to put my hands under an LED light to fix the gel nail polish.

The process took about 2 hours and I was exhausted after that so I had donuts! 😛

All in all, it was a good experience. However, they are really hard to maintain. You’ll need to get regular fillers so it still looks real. The maintenance depends on how fast your nails grow. I, for myself will not get acrylics again. Sometimes the white part of the nails turns yellow after eating food and I need to wash them with a brush to make them white again. I would much rather get a gel manicure from the next time onwards. It stays longer and makes the nails stronger.

About 2-3 coats of gel nail polish are applied. After every coat, you need to put your nails under the light to fix the polish. The last coat is a top coat that gives shine.

The nails look really thick and healthy after a gel manicure and it does not chip at all for about 2-3 weeks.

You’ll need to go back to the salon to remove your gel manicure.

I hope this was helpful to all of you who are considering getting acrylics or a gel manicure.
