What’s In My October 2013 Vellvette Box/Bag!

By Aishwarya Kaushal, Friday, 25th October 2013

Hello everyone!

The Vellvette Bag is BLUE this month!

Image

Here is a peek inside :

Image

This month’s theme for the Vellvette Bag was KISS. ( Keep It Simple, Sexy)

Image

Here is what I got :

Image

1. VANTIV Moisturizing Shampoo + Refreshing Lemon Shower Gel

Image

It feels like they put in an effort to personalize the bag this time. My hair is very dry and I am quite pleased to receive a moisturizing shampoo. My friend, who has normal hair, received an energizing version.

Image

This smells strongly of lemons, almost like the lemon hard candy we used to eat as children, which I personally find refreshing but it may not be everyone’s cup pf tea. However, I would’ve preferred to receive the Cool Water version like some of the other subscribers did!

Both these products are full size and cost Rs. 187/- and Rs. 214/- respectively.

2. Florelle Wet And Dry Blush – Marmorized

Image

Here is a closer look :

Quick swatches :

Image

It gives a beautiful sheen to the cheeks. I have only used it dry and was happy with the results. It is a plumy pink shade that is wonderful for the Autumn/Winter time. I like that it doesn’t have chunky glitter and can be worn easily during the day.

It is a full size product and costs Rs. 750/-

3. Brocato Actives Restorative Hair Infusion Serum

Image

I am excited to try this product as I have damaged hair after chemical treatments and coloring them for years!

This is a deluxe sample size product and costs Rs. 375/- for 7 ml. Full size is 25 ml and retails for Rs. 1275/-

I am satisfied with this month’s bag. The blush is beautifully pigmented unlike the eye shadows we received last month! The bag is personalized to my needs which is a pleasant relief.

My subscription expires this month so I also received a renewal offer to get 10% off when I book a new one. I am happy with this month’s box but I wonder when Vellvette will start sending products from brands like Dior, Clinique, Lush, Kerastase, Caudalie, Clarins, Shiseido, Lancome etc because it shows all these products on the website.  I am going to renew my subscription in the hopes of being sent products from luxury brands so I can try them out before spending a ton of money on them. This is what beauty subscription boxes are supposed to do. When I look at international beauty boxes like Ipsy and Birchbox, they provide 5-6 items per bag for $10 that are great value, I feel like Vellvette is probably not doing enough. Maybe, it needs more competition and we need more such beauty or fashion subscription services in India!

I also have a coupon to give any one of you Rs. 100/- off of your first bag. Please email me at queriesforaishwarya@gmail.com if you are interested. I will send it to the first person who emails me.

Sleek Pout Paint Review : Shade 159 Port, 155 Lava and 157 Pin Up!

By Aishwarya Kaushal, Thursday, 24th October 2013

Hello everyone!

First of all, I am a huge fan of Sleek Makeup. I wish they had a store in India or retailed here, but they deliver internationally so I am good 😛 I have their amazing iDivine eye shadow palette and their blushes and contour kit. I am never disappointed by Sleek for their high quality and affordable prices.

Their blush in “Rose Gold” is wonderful and a great dupe for Nars “Orgasm”. Read a detailed review HERE

I am reviewing the Sleek Pout Paints in the shades 159 Port, 155 Lava and 157 Pin Up.

Image

What Sleek Says :

A truly unique lip product, Pout Paint is a highly pigmented lip stain like no other. It provides full coverage that is light weight, non sticky and extremely buildable. It is made to be mixed, we’re pretty sure you’ll want more than one colour.

Pout Paint can be mixed with any of the varying shades to create a unique colour that is exclusive to you.

Available in 11 shades.

3ml/0.27fl.oz

Not tested on animals.

Store in a cool dry place.

Image

Ingredients :

Polyisobutane, Polybutene, Ricinus Communis (Castor) Seed Oil, Beeswax, Caprylic/Capric Triglyceride, Silica, Butylated Hydroxy Anisole, Glycol Distearate, Prunus Amygdalus Dulcic (Sweet Almond)Oil, Octyl Palmitate, Ascorbyl Palmitate, Tocopheryl Acetate, Squalene, Phenoxyethanol, Ethylhexylglycerin and Fragrance. May contain: Titanium dioxide. Suitable for vegetarians. Not suitable for vegans.

Price : $6.49 ( Approximately Rs. 400/- )

My Thoughts On The Product :

It comes in a tiny tube with a cap that screws shut. I like how the tube is transparent so it doesn’t get lost in my collection and the colors are easy to differentiate.

The product is dispensed by a small nozzle which is good because the Pout Paint is EXTREMELY pigmented. I have to be careful not to take too much product out as you only need the tiniest drop to coat the entire lips.

Image

What is best about this product is that it is long wearing (more than 7 hours) without being drying. It gives a semi glossy finish upon application which turns to a matte finish after the gloss wears off. It is non sticky, spreads wonderfully well and does not settle into lines or become patchy even hours after application. But, it would definitely apply better if your lips are exfoliated and moisturized. Since the pigment is too strong, it might adhere to dry patches.

The only downside is that you will need a lip brush to apply it. It can be spread with fingertips but the product is so pigmented that you will want to define the lip contour with a brush. There are nude shades available too for those of you who do not like such bold lip colours.

I find this to be such a fun product. They can be mixed with each other to create your own personal shade. They also have a white one to lighten any other shade and a blue one to darken. They are considered to be the cheaper dupes of the famous OCC Lip Tars!

Sometimes the product can separate within the tube but that can easily be fixed by pressing and rolling the tube and mixing the products back into place.

The shade “Port” is a deeply pigmented Plumy Pink Shade. It can be worn heavily to create a beautiful fall/winter appropriate look and it can also be blotted down to create a pretty fuchsia stained lip.

Image

This is how it looks on my lips :

Image

Image

The shade “Lava” is a bright neon orange shade. This can also be worn heavily to rock a neon orange pout or could be muted down to a light orange stain.

Image

This is how it looks on my lips :

Image

Image

The shade “Pin Up” is a bright juicy red. Again, this can be worn heavily to achieve the old Hollywood glamorous look or sheered down to a more wearable everyday red.

Image

This is how it looks on my lips :

Image

Image

The GOOD :

1. Amazingly pigmented

2. Long wearing

3. Non drying

4. Smooth consistency that is easy to spread

5. Transparent tube

6. Supremely staining

7. Inexpensive

8. You only need a small quantity to coat the entire lips so it will last very long

The NOT SO GOOD :

1. Need a lip brush for application otherwise it can get messy

2. May adhere to dry patches on chapped lips

OVERALL :

I am quite happy with the product. They are an amazing option for people who like to create their own colours and play with makeup. They can also work as a good long wearing base under lipsticks by blotting some of it away and applying lipstick on top.

What is your ACNE trying to tell you?

By Aishwarya Kaushal, Sunday, 13th October 2013

Acne, medically known as Acne Vulgaris, is a skin disease that involves the oil glands at the base of hair follicles. It commonly occurs during puberty when the sebaceous (oil) glands come to life – the glands are stimulated by male hormones produced by the adrenal glands of both males and females.

Most of us have suffered from the demon in our teenage years and some of us may well be affected by it even in adulthood. There are a million topical “cures” of acne flooding the market including face washes, packs, toners, lotions, treatments etc. But, have you ever wondered what your acne is trying to tell you in disguise?

The place of your zits can tell you a lot about what is wrong with your body.

1. Forehead : Acne on this area signals a problem within the digestive system. Eat less processed or junk food, reduce the amount of fat in your diet, step up your water intake and opt for cooling foods like cucumber and watermelon.

2. Center Of The Forehead and Middle Of The Eyebrows : This shows liver dysfunction. Cut out alcohol, dairy and greasy food. This is the zone where food allergies also show up first so keep a check on your ingredients. Besides this, do a 30 minute light workout and sleep well so your liver can rest.

3. Temples : Anything around the eyes ( including dark circles ) points to dehydration. So, drink up!

4. Nose : Pimples on the nose may be due to a heart problem. Check your blood pressure and Vitamin B levels. Decrease the intake of spicy and pungent food, cut down on meat and get more fresh air. Besides this, look into ways to lower cholesterol, like replacing “bad fats” with “good fats” such as Omega 3 and 6 fatty acids found in nuts, avocados, fish and flax seeds. Also, since this area is chock full of dilated pores, check that you do not apply expired makeup and use non-clogging products on your face.

5. Ears : There might be something wrong with the kidney function. Again, drink up. Cut down on aerated drinks, coffee and alcohol as all these will cause further dehydration.

6. Cheeks : Zits on the cheek signal respiratory system issues. Do you smoke? Have allergies? This is your problem area for both. If neither of these is the issue, don’t let your body overheat, eat more cooling foods, cut down on sugar and get more fresh air. Also, keep the body more alkaline by avoiding foods that make the body acidic ( meat, dairy, alcohol, caffeine, sugar ) and adding more alkalizing foods like green veggies and wheatgrass juice. Another thing that most of us forget – Dirty cell phones and pillow cases are two of the top acne culprits and this area is what they affect the most.

7. Sides Of The Chin : This shows hormonal imbalance. This the signature zone for stress and hormonal changes. And while both are sometimes unavoidable, you can decrease their effect by getting adequate sleep, drinking enough water, eating leafy vegetables and keeping the skin scrupulously clean. Another interesting point; breakouts in this area indicate when you are ovulating ( and on which side ). To prevent pimples that occur during or before your periods, use an anti acne face wash during PMS, preferably something with Salicylic acid and/or Benzyl Peroxide.

8. On The Chin : This area indicates problems with the stomach. Increase your fibre intake, reduce the toxin overload and drink herbal teas to help with digestion.

9. Neck : Pimples on the neck may be due to an underlying illness. Zits here can be a sign that your body is fighting bacteria to avoid illness. Give it a break, take a yoga class, take a nap, take time to breathe deeply, drink plenty of water and know that everything will be fine!

I hope this was helpful.
